Ambit has delivered the refurbishment of Grade II* Listed former Sanderson wallpaper factory, Voysey House, for client Dorrington.

We have refurbished and delivered Voysey House, a Grade II* Listed building, harmoniously blending its historical character with modern functionality. Originally designed by C.F.A. Voysey as a Sanderson wallpaper factory extension, the project prioritised sustainability in the modern world.

We transformed the space, removing structurally loaded walls, installing industrial beams, and adding a new elevator riser. Solar panels were installed to power the building, while the original facade's white-glazed bricks were restored and made water-resistant. Internal updates included refurbished flooring, new lower-floor black steel windows, and expanded office spaces.

Due to heritage restrictions, a unique sign-off process with approvals was needed to remove and restore features. We cultivated a transparent relationship with the Hounslow Council Conservation Team, providing detailed plans and samples to secure support and preserve heritage elements.

Sustainability was a focus, with energy monitoring software installed and a high 41/45 score from the Considerate Construction Scheme was achieved. A Casambi lighting system improved energy efficiency, while the original timber flooring was refurbished, reducing carbon emissions and prevented an estimated 7kgCO2/m2 of carbon emissions that would have been associated with new materials. The result is a CAT A finish with functional WCs, showers, and bike storage, successfully uniting heritage preservation and innovative design.
